Safety at Alton Towers

Behind the thrills and excitement lies a dedicated team focused on safety and preparedness. At Alton Towers Resort, guest safety isn't just a priority—it's built into the very design of the park.  With tens of thousands of visitors enjoying the thrills each year, the dedicated Safety and Security team works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every guest has a memorable and secure experience.

What makes Alton Towers unique is its remote location. This presents specific challenges that the team expertly navigates through comprehensive training, both in-house and in collaboration with external agencies. From first aid and water rescue to rope rescue and control room operations, the team is equipped to handle a wide range of situations.

Investing in Preparedness

Prior to becoming a user of D4H, Tom had experience with the software in his volunteering role for a search and rescue team, it was there he saw the value of what D4H could bring to the Alton Towers operations.

Alton Towers utilizes D4H software to manage personnel training, equipment readiness, and ensure the highest safety standards across its vast site, including the theme park, water park, and hotel complex.

Comprehensive Training and Competency Tracking

The safety team at Alton Towers invests in ongoing training and development for their teams, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle any event. D4H plays a crucial role in this process, allowing them to efficiently manage training procedures. The team utilizes D4H’s personnel & training software to assign tasks, track completion, and monitor the competency of colleagues. This ensures everyone remains up-to-date with the latest procedures and best practices.

Additionally, regular drills and simulations are conducted, both internally and in collaboration with external agencies. These exercises provide invaluable opportunities to test response plans, refine communication strategies, and strengthen teamwork.

D4H’s Training Exercise Planner allows the team to meticulously plan each event, document procedures, and record outcomes. This not only streamlines operations but also provides valuable data for continuous improvement. By leveraging D4H's capabilities, training programs remain effective and teams are always prepared to deliver a safe and enjoyable experience for guests.

“D4H allows us to plan exercises in advance, so the team knows what's happening and where.”

Efficient Equipment Management

Managing a vast array of equipment is essential for safety operations at Alton Towers. D4H's equipment management software provides a centralized platform for tracking, inspecting, and maintaining all assets. This ensures that everything is in good working condition and readily available when needed. Migrating to D4H involved inputting over 3,500 equipment items from various spreadsheets. The D4H customer support team simplified this complex process, ensuring a smooth transition.

Alton Towers utilizes D4H Equipment Management as a comprehensive system to oversee its diverse range of safety and security equipment. This includes everything from essential items like AEDs and first aid kits to specialized gear such as harnesses, helmets, and dry suits for their water rescue team. They've even integrated their drone fleet into the system, allowing them to track maintenance schedules and ensure these valuable assets are always ready for deployment.

D4H helps Alton Towers maintain a meticulous inventory of their equipment, track its location, and manage inspection schedules to ensure everything is in top working condition and compliant with safety regulations. This centralized system streamlines their operations and contributes significantly to their preparedness for any eventuality.

“With D4H I have everything I need in one web-based platform no matter where I am or what site I’m working at, whether I’m at my desk, on my mobile, on my tablet, or traveling I can log on and see everything I need.”
